Tom Young is listed in the Best Lawyers in America and has been recognized multiple times by South Carolina Super Lawyers for excellence in litigation while the firm has the highest possible rating (AV) from the Martindale Hubbell attorney rating service. Tom has extensive experience in state and federal courts representing both individual and business clients involving business, insurance, catastrophic injury/damage, workers compensation, commercial, criminal, and probate matters. Tom frequently counsels clients on issues involving insurance coverage, risk management, workplace safety, and alternative dispute resolution.
Tom is a 1989 graduate of Aiken High School; a 1993 honors graduate of the University of South Carolina – Columbia; and a 1996 honors graduate of the USC School of Law. While at USC, Tom was the Student Body President and received the 1993 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award as the most outstanding graduate in his class. Tom is the 2009 recipient of the Silver Compleat Lawyer Award presented by the USC School of Law Alumni Association to recognize alumni for outstanding civic and professional accomplishments. Recipients are individuals who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and exemplify the highest standards of professional competence, ethics, and integrity.
Currently, in addition to practicing law, Tom serves in the South Carolina State Senate representing District 24 covering large portions of Aiken County including most of Aiken, North Augusta, Warrenville, Gloverville, Couchton, New Ellenton, Jackson, Beech Island, and Windsor. In the Senate, Tom serves on the Judiciary, Education, Rules, Fish and Game, Families/Veterans Services, Oversight, and Nuclear Advisory Committees and the Savannah River Maritime Commission. Tom is also the Chairman of the Aiken County Legislative Delegation. Tom served in the S.C. House of Representatives representing District 81 from 2009 through 2012. Tom’s legislative service has been recognized by many organizations including the American Legion, the S.C. Chamber of Commerce, the Palmetto Family Alliance, S.C. Farm Bureau, S.C. United Way, S.C. Education Association, and S.C. BIPEC.
Tom and his wife Heather reside in Aiken with their two daughters Hailey and Ashley. They are members of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken.
